The Heaviest Snow in Nearly 20 years – Braced Yourself For More

After the heaviest snowfall for 18 years brought London and parts of the south-east to a standstill on Monday, most of the snow was in the south-west of England and Wales. Lorries ground to a halt on hilly stretches and motorists abandoned cars stuck in drifts. Even though the snowy conditions gripping the country eased in some areas, 8,000 schools across the UK yesterday were closed.
